It's Official: Madonna and Ritchie Split

Earlier this morning in our bi-weekly Link Love post, we linked to The Sun's article suggesting an impending divorce of the iconic Madonna and her director hubby Guy Ritchie. Madonna's spokesperson has confirmed reports of the divorce, according to Us Magazine. This hardly comes as a surprise. Rumors of their breakup have been circulating for years. But now it's official, and so ends one of the most notable cougar/cub marriages.

According to Us's insiders, the divorce announcement was Ritchie's idea:

"Guy Ritchie is responsible for wanting this divorce now," a source tells Usmagazine.com. "He didn't want to wait to break the news, it had gone on along enough. This marriage was over a long time ago."

It's sad news, of course. But at least we will always have their brilliant collaboration, Swept Away, to remember their romance.
