Hollywood to Re-visit “Valley”
Having been born and raised in the San Fernando Valley during the halcyon days of the late 70s and early 80s, perhaps I hold movies like “Valley Girl” in more esteem than they deserve, but even by Hollywood standard this latest announcement in Variety that MGM intends to desecrate the film with a remake seems particularly egregious. Forget that this highlights just how unoriginal Hollywood has become and instead simply try to imagine how exactly this is going to work. According to the article, the new film will be a musical and “utilize the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ story of the original ‘Valley Girl’ and sport classic '80s songs.” I know the Eighties are back in vogue but this concept really is asking a lot of today’s teen audience. But if it brings back Deborah Foreman from whatever rock she’s been hiding under all these years, then whatever cinematic crimes they perpetrate will be entirely worth it.
