July 2009

Age:  46

Hometown:  Las Vegas, Nevada

One of the reason's I did Rock of Love was because I was 45 at the time, and I wanted to bring hope and inspiration to women that you can be in your forties, still look fabulous and keep your dreams alive. That anything is possible at any age. What a wild ride this has been, and I can't wait to see what happens next! -Catherine Brown

We couldn’t be happier to introduce you to the July 2009 Urbancougar of the Month, Catherine Brown, star contestant on VH1’s Rock of Love 2. You know the show where a bunch of women compete for Bret Michaels’ affection?! As a woman in her mid-forties Catherine was up against mostly twentysomethings and showed them what’s what. It’s no wonder. Few women combine beauty, confidence and kindness the way Catherine does. She managed to carry herself with dignity on a show essentially designed to create conflict and over-the-top drama. Only a beautiful cougar could do that.

What we love most about Catherine is her honesty and refreshing perspective. “I was blessed with great genes, and luckily don't have to work to hard to look good,” she tells us. “But I believe that at any age you can accomplish anything. I know why I was cast for the show. I didn't look my age, nor do I act it. I am extremely young at heart and believe anything is possible.”

We all should be so optimistic!

On to the interview…

How was your experience on Rock of Love 2? Viewers always wonder, "Was what we saw on the screen similar to actual events or was it manipulated through editing?”
Rock of love changed my life. I have met the most incredible people since the show. It still amazes me to see how happy people are to meet me.  I am extremely flattered and it's been a crazy, fun experience. I have had women of all ages come up to me and express how cool they thought it was that I conducted myself the way I did. I could only be myself. I am certainly not an actress.

Editing is a funny thing. Things weren't always as they seemed, but, I was pretty much portrayed how I really am. It's just not my style to start drama.  I'm into positive energy and karma.

How has your celebrity changed your life?
In every way possible.  Doing appearances at events has been so much fun, it's surreal.  I have not met anyone I haven't liked and it has truly changed my life forever.  The show came at a time in my life where I literally was at a crossroad. I had raised my son's, built a house and had a successful marketing company, it was incredible to be able to do something for myself and not feel bad about it.

Have you ever been called a cougar before? If so, what was your reaction?
Actually I haven't.  Bret is the same age as me, so that wasn't an issue.  The youngest guy I have ever dated was 40, so I'm not sure that makes me a cougar, but I believe you’re as young as you feel.  I am extremely young at heart, and you are only as old as you feel, and I feel pretty damn good!

What do you make of all the attention given to "cougars" in the media of late?
I just believe that women take better care of themselves now, which is liberating. I think all women are beautiful in their own way.  I believe it has given a lot of women a whole new confidence.

How often do you get hit on by younger men? How does that make you feel?
LMAO!  ALL the time, it's extremely flattering to have younger guys into me. How can it not?!

You mention that you think much of your strength and sex appeal comes from within? What personal qualities do you think give you that inner glow?
Being positive, believing that all people are good.  Knowing that anything is possible, and living it. I have always had a large personality and felt like whatever happens in your life, you have the power to turn it around. Sex appeal does come from within. You just have to feel that your worth it, you deserve it, then own it!

What's next for you? What are your ambitions?
I just did a reality show on Showtime that is currently airing now.  As far as my ambitions, the sky is the limit.  I would actually like to get into a relationship, find true love and settle down a bit.  Not SLOW down. I have enough energy for ten people, but just find that one person that gets it.  Life is a gift, and waking up every single day is a blessing, never to be taken for granted.

One of the reasons you did the show was to bring "hope and inspiration" to women in their forties and beyond. Have any words of encouragement for the lovely cougars out there?
Own it, believe it, live it.  Age is seriously only a number. I have felt better in my 40's than I have in my entire life.  I have a sense of well-being. When I was in my 20's I was bouncing off the wall's trying to figure out who I was, what I wanted, where I was going.  At this time in my life, I know exactly what I want, I put it out there, and I am never disappointed.  I went on a show and competed with mostly girls in their 20's.  Not once did I feel intimated. It was such an incredible experience and I wouldn't change a thing.  You are only as old as you feel, never cut yourself down, we all have an inner and outer beauty, you just have to ROCK IT!
